Default inherited a site - how do I check for blacklisting.. - 10-03-2006 , 05:38 PM

I redesigned a site recently (schooloftheworld.org). While cleaning up the server, I found all sorts of bad pages and relics of seo gone wrong. Its all gone now.. but I am wondering if there is any way to check if the engines have a grudge against the site.

It seems that yahoo has reindexed the site while google has a disgraceful listing of older results that havent resolved for over a month.

I am in the process of using gSiteCrawler to make me a sitemap.. and I am going to submit it of course...

As google says that their motive is to provide better information to
people, I think they give weightage to links to related sites as well.

For example many pages in wikipedia have links to .gov or .edu sites
like say 20 links per page. This is because wikipedia tries to provide
more info to people. And the pages rank well.

Has this something to do with the .edu or .gov links on the pages? I
know that wikipedia has many back links but I still wonder if the .edu
or .gov links have something to do with it.

Wikipedia ranks well partly because so many people link to it:

google.com/search?q=link%3Awikipedia.org

It also has a lot of great text, and good internal linking. It is
definitely an authoritative site.

It sounds like your question is:
"if I have an impressive list of well chosen and intelligently
edited outbound links on my site, will that help MY page rank?

My guess is no, not directly. But that's just a guess.
I'm a fisherman, so I do like to invent and exaggerate answers.
Even tell outright lies every now and then.

Anyway, if your outbound links are so well chosen the masses
eventually fall in love with your site, and you ultimately
do get lots of traffic, because of you well chosen outbound
link collection, well maybe long term yes.

But in the short run, if you just make links to a laundry list of
high ranking sites.........well, anybody can do that.

Related sites of quality that are useful to your visitor, yes, I'd say
so, very much.

If you can find them, does it not make sense to link to them anyway?
Surely the question you should be asking is, how can I improve my
site, not how can I improve my rankings?

They don't, though. The idea of being helpful just doesn't occur to
most people.

Not to me. This person Sandy.Pittendrigh (AT) gmail (DOT) com has posted here before
and is also a fisherman, I recognized the email. With a little bit of
research, maybe 5 minutes you could have found this person's website
http://montana-riverboats.com/ and researched his IP to verify that yes he
is posting from Montana.:-)

I would say it would, especially if it is a site that is well linked to
and has a decent PageRank. The weight importance of this is probably on
the lower end though.

Everyone Else:
What's this with Canada Fred??? I've been pretty busy and out of the
loop lately. I definately missed something.

P.S. Good work Jezsta. Maybe you should become a private detective.
