A few weeks ago a domain that I manage was suspended by Google, apparently due to unacceptable practices (keyword stuffing, hidden text etc). The message from Google indicated that the suspension would last a minimum of 30 days. This 30 day period will be over soon. I have now eliminated the offending content to the best of my ability (i.e. wherever I found it), but cannot be sure that it has been removed completely. 1) Should I resubmit now (and keep my fingers crossed that all pages are clean) - and if so, when can I expect the site to reappear in Google's index (it had a 5 PR earlier)? |
|
2) If some offensive content has escaped my attention inadvertently, does that mean that the URL will be permanently banned by Google? |
|
3) Would it be a better strategy (insurance) to register a new domain and upload the site to this new URL and hope to get around Google's wrath in this way? Needless to say, the marketing consequences of starting afresh with a new URL are pretty drastic! |

Thanks for your advice. |

Depends on the matter of offense still left on the site. 3) Would it be a better strategy (insurance) to register a new domain and upload the site to this new URL and hope to get around Google's wrath in this way? Go through each and every page and then ask for resubmission. Thanks for your advice. Np. |

A new domain with the same problems would fool Google for a nanosecond, so is probably futile. You best bet bet would be to spend some time reading and re-reading Google's webmaster guidelines, and don't try to 'get away' with anything. If you have shown good faith, even if you have not been 100% effective, I doubt you'll get a ban for life ... but if you waste their review time (not cheap - even the janitor has a PhD), then they'll not be too sympathetic. What you did not mention, and accounts for 95%+ of Google bans, is links; check, double check and triple check your outgoing links, expecially recips, and those you cannot control (eg forums). Use nofollow. Then use xenu to give you a cold look at your navigation, and use Google's own webmaster tools to look for obvious problems. Finally, get out of the mindset of "getting around Google's wrath" - because the only way to do that is not give them cause to be wrathful. Take it on the chin - or they'll floor you next time. Good Luck! ;o) |

My only hesitation was due to the fact that I am not competent enough to check whether all the problems on the site have now been fully rectified; and there is only me to do this job, the client has no resources to hire some other professional. Hence, I am scared of doing further damage. ... What are "recips" and when should I use "nofollow" |
