Default How to revive a suspended domain on Google's Index? - 10-09-2007 , 11:44 AM

A few weeks ago a domain that I manage was suspended by Google,
apparently due to unacceptable practices (keyword stuffing, hidden text
etc). The message from Google indicated that the suspension would last a
minimum of 30 days.

This 30 day period will be over soon. I have now eliminated the
offending content to the best of my ability (i.e. wherever I found it),
but cannot be sure that it has been removed completely.

1) Should I resubmit now (and keep my fingers crossed that all pages are
clean) - and if so, when can I expect the site to reappear in Google's
index (it had a 5 PR earlier)?

2) If some offensive content has escaped my attention inadvertently,
does that mean that the URL will be permanently banned by Google?

3) Would it be a better strategy (insurance) to register a new domain
and upload the site to this new URL and hope to get around Google's
wrath in this way? Needless to say, the marketing consequences of
starting afresh with a new URL are pretty drastic!

Thanks for your advice.

If your are not sure, don't.

It could happen. Depends on the matter of offense still left on the site.

No! All the effort will be for nothing when cought again.

Clean up your site. Go through each and every page and then ask for
resubmission.

Nice of G to let you know!

A new domain with the same problems would fool Google for a nanosecond, so
is probably futile.

You best bet bet would be to spend some time reading and re-reading Google's
webmaster guidelines, and don't try to 'get away' with anything.

If you have shown good faith, even if you have not been 100% effective, I
doubt you'll get a ban for life ... but if you waste their review time (not
cheap - even the janitor has a PhD), then they'll not be too sympathetic.

What you did not mention, and accounts for 95%+ of Google bans, is links;
check, double check and triple check your outgoing links, expecially recips,
and those you cannot control (eg forums). Use nofollow.

Then use xenu to give you a cold look at your navigation, and use Google's
own webmaster tools to look for obvious problems.

Finally, get out of the mindset of "getting around Google's wrath" - because
the only way to do that is not give them cause to be wrathful. Take it on
the chin - or they'll floor you next time.

Good Luck! ;o)

I agree with Tonnie, but I would like to add one more thing.

DON'T do it again. I hope you have learnt your lesson. And I hope
other would-be blackhatters read this and learn from it.
It ain't worth it.

Andrew et al.,

Many thanks for your comments.

First, let me clarify that it is ABSOLUTELY NOT my intention to fool
Google or slip some illegal content past them.

My only hesitation was due to the fact that I am not competent enough to
check whether all the problems on the site have now been fully
rectified; and there is only me to do this job, the client has no
resources to hire some other professional. Hence, I am scared of doing
further damage.

For instance, your comment "..." was largely lost on me. What are
"recips" and when should I use "nofollow" (presumably with robots meta
tags)? Any further clarification you could provide would be much
appreciated.

Thanks much

GS

Want to tell us where it is?

I wouldn't think so, not if it has any good content. It's unlikely to
hasten reinclusion though.

I'd be inclined to give it a go with the existing domain. But get it
cleaned up first by someone who knows what they're doing.

What are "recips" and when should I use "nofollow"
recips is ghastly slang for reciprocal links [sorry!]

nofollow is a way of making links so that search engines do not count them
for (or against) you. If you have a guest books, forums or any way that
'unapproved' links can appear on your site, then all the major SEs and all
good SEOs recommend you use them; the only alternative is very, very tight
moderation. nofollow can also be used on other links, but if you are unhappy
to link, it'skinder to your visitors to remove it, not make it nofollow -
nofollow protects you, but cannot protect your visitors.

Well worth looking up both topics - they are essential knowledge.
