Default How Good Is Dreamweaver For HTML Pages? - 09-23-2004 , 07:04 PM

I was told Word is bad for basic HTML pages (like text mostly--blogs
ands whatever) and I know someone who might be able to get me a great
deal on Dreamweaver 2004.

Anyone have any ideas about this? I hear Word creates a lot of extra
crap that is bad for search engines and ranking and stuff.

Thanks!!

ALL software generated html contains loads of extraneous stuff.
Dreamweaver in the right hands is better than most but it's expensive. Its
most appropriate use is for cooking up quick and rough page prototypes and
for site management of large sites.

OTOH Word is particularly bad.

There are a number of cheap and free programmes that are far better than
using word and in some cases as good as Dreamweaver (but without the site
management tools). I'd recommend 1st Page for a beginner, which is free
and lets you expand the options as you gain proficiency.

There's a batch of links to html editing software and tutorials on how to
create pages on your own at <http://www.ericjarvis.co.uk/web.html> I
haven't updated it in quite a while though.

Not true. I generate my HTML via XML and it's as clean as a baby after a
hot bath ;-)

You'll find, I think, that if you get DW you can run your Word sites
through its filters and it'll remove a lot of the crap that Word puts
in. It's a better bet than Word is.

Eric-

My brother popped in the door last night with a used copy of
Dreamweaver MX 2004 for Mac and all the paperwork with it--he wouldn't
say what he paid for it but we're poor so he must have got it cheap! I
guess we'll be eating rice for a while anyway though....

I'm going to check out your site but in the meantime thanks a lot!!

Grasshopper, I send you greetings quoted from my weblog:

"In symbolic logic, a contradiction logically implies that anything be
true, including but not limited to another contradiction. For example,
the argument "it's 2004 and it's not 2004; therefore, you suck" is
absolutely valid."

Take a freshman class is relativity theory and THEN come back and tell
me how crazy I am!!

But anyway you're not the first person to tell me that today--must be
something in the air....

Actually relativity theory is easier--and makes more sense! At least
English isn't FRENCH....
