How do I buy from an individual?

Hey, this may be a real stupid question, but anyway. I have a guy who
will sell me his domain name. How do I actually buy it from him? I
have only bought from dotster and companies like that.

Hi Bob,

You need to perform a domain transfer. Find a registrar (either one you have
an account with or a new one) and follow their procedure for transferring in
a domain name. You have to initiate the transfer. They will then send an
email to the current owner and admin contacts asking if it OK for the
transfer to go ahead. If they agree, the domain will then move to your
account with your registrar. The whole procedure will be detailed in the FAQ
section of any good registrar's site.

Note that depending upon who the current registrar is, the current owner may
have to say they want to allow the domain to be transferred before they will
accept your transfer request. Check the FAQ of the current registrar to see
if you have to do this. (I know you have to with Joker).

That's the technical side. As to how you 'buy' it is up to you. I would
suggest you both sign a contract saying that you will pay him your agreed
amount on completion of a successful transfer.
