Default Google Visited my site 17 Times in one Day! - 01-06-2004 , 03:05 PM

I cant believe it! Whats the Deal with that?

My Log showed :

Visit No. 1 on 1/2/04
Visit No. 2 on 1/3/04

Then the Number shot way up to 19 Total Visits on 1/6/04 !

What the heck is going on?

Googlebot tends to bombard sites. At least that's what my stats say.

*Bot* *Hits* *Date*
Googlebot 133 05 Jan 2004 - 18:54
Inktomi Slurp 2 05 Jan 2004 - 13:17
ia_archiver 1 03 Jan 2004 - 04:59
WISENutbot 1 04 Jan 2004 - 02:37
Jeeves 1 03 Jan 2004 - 00:06

I don't mind one bit

Does it still update any changes you make on the Site within those Visits?
Im Just Concerend that there may be some kind of problem spidering the
ite - so it keeps trying to rescan it or something.
I recently had a page over the 100K limit, but corrected it some time ago.
Would that cause Google to visit , but not spider the site?
Can too many scheduled Visits to a Site do more harm than good?

Those stats didn't come from the site in my sig. They're from a
directory I run, which has a lot more pages. That explains all the hits
from Googlebot.

New sections of that site are being updated in Google fairly quickly.

It just spiders the first 100K. Any more is too much for a spider to
carry back to Google and its legs get tired.

Only if bandwidth is a major issue.

Well - Google Visited my Site again at Midnight last night. Still it has not
updated a single page....Im beginnning to think somethings Wrong.
I would suspect my PHP site map the Cause for no spidering - but its not
even updating the Index.html Page. Last time it did that was back on 12/23
and it DID seem to spider it ok with the PHP site map.

Which page(s) on your site did Googlebot visit?

If it visited only your index.html, it may be having trouble
finding your links.

If it visited other pages, it is definitely finding them.

grep for "googlebot" in your log files to see which pages it
it is accessing.

Googlebot had been almost ignoring me for a few weeks, then
it started up again on the 9th and it visited me 198 times
on the 10th.
