Default Google Search Results and Internal Links - 10-04-2005 , 01:45 PM

Try a search for 'Thrifty'. The Thrifty Car Rental site appears with
links to internal sections of the Thrifty site such as Customer Care,
Find a location, etc. How is that done? Is there some type of meta tag
that I can place on my pages to show internal links?

Thanks,
Cliff.

My guess would be: they are a power advertiser and this had been
specifically setup for them. If you have pockets deep enough, you should
also be able to. other than that there is no way to add links to your site
in a regular SERP.

Thanks for finding this one, BTW. I never came across one before (or did
not pay enough attention). This way of placing additional links for paid
customers without clearly labeling them as "sponsored listing" or
something similar hints at Google's morals succumbing to the needs of
investors demanding making mega bucks. This has been a theme of numerous
threads here, so I don't want to start yet another one.

Can't blame Google for chasing the bucks but when paid adds are most of
the first page, I use a different SE.

If you search for Glaxo, Tesco, BBC, and ITV, to name a four(!),
they all have this "secondary" or "internal" indexing.

Maybe Google went around all of the world's major companies, cap
in hand, and said to them "gissa few notes and we'll do a bit more for
ya"... Or maybe, they just went ahead and did it?

I really can't see at least three out of the four companies
noted above allocating funds to pay Google, for a service that doesn't
benefit them...

No, I have this additional links too! I'm very surprised! I've never
paid a buck to Google. My search word is 'Purkersdorf' (the name of a
small city) and my page is the first result for many years.

It's probably something that Google does automatically for
long-established 'trusted' sites.

Hey, Gerhard, congrats!

I feel real stupid now being badmouthing such wonderful company here :-(
Anyways, these additional links are a great feature to have, so I'm
anxious to find out what can be done to put them there. I see that you are
also in Google Directory (DMOZ) - thing I've been trying to do for so many
years now. Maybe it has something to do with this additional navigational
links. Or maybe the fact that you were number #1 for many of years. I
can’t really brag about any particular keyword I’ve been #1 for years, so
can’t verify that. Maybe someone else in this respectable newsgroup?
Anyone?

The other thing that's catching my attention is that those are
logged-click links. Very interesting indeed. Wonder why…
