Default Google page ranks, link popularity and sub domains - 08-11-2003 , 08:08 PM

Folks,

A quick question if I may.

I am about to launch a new site with a link directory. I understand that
Google's Page Rank algorithm takes into account the number of incoming
links to a domain - i.e., it's link popularity.

Would there be any benefit in putting my link directory in a different
sub domain to my main site?

For instance;

Main site mydomain.com
link directory links.mydomain.com

That way, I could ask for links into mydomain.com and put my links out
from links.mydomain.com and hence the number of outgoing links in
links.mydomain.com would not detract from mydomain.com's link
popularity.

Does this make any senses pls?

Cheers

AFAICS no.
Outbound links only affect the PR of the specific page that they are placed
on.
yourdomain.com will not be affected by your outbound links page.

Ah, so in that case there is no benefit in moving the links page to a
separate subdomain. I was under the impression that Page Rank was
somehow aggregated across the domain and not just page specific.

Thanks for your help.

you could actually put your links inside javascript. google doesn't bother
reading these type of links so it will not reduce any PR at all from your
links page.
Thanks - can you let me have the syntax for putting the links in
Javascript so that the users can still see them please?
