Default google nr 1 ranking for computer - 04-15-2005 , 08:09 PM

Dear all,

I take a look at google, on the word "computer" and found out that
from the 795 Million ! sites, a Dutch site for a computer magazine is nr.1
in google. !

Is there any logical explanation for this ?
(Besides that they display google adds)

I can't see anything in the source code from which i think
"hey... They do it like that" ;-D

Jan,
The Netherlands.

On my side Apple has #1 for computer out of 636+ million sites - with
Dell, Computer Assoc., Computer World, and EIEE Computer Society.

Since you are from the Netherlands, sometimes Google defaults to their
'regional search engine' - some people, for example, from England were
finding themselves being defaulted to google.co.uk versus google.com -
which may have had a little something to do with it also since I don't
see a Dutch magazine site in #1 spot on google.com for computer

Adsense doesnt' have any bearing on ranking. Just like being an Amazon
affiliate won't help you on Alexa.

Google likes off-page touches as well as on-page ones; so the View
Source may not reveal 'all'. They may have links leading their way
with the word 'computer' as part of the anchor text. They may have
also used some theming for their inbound links. The off-page touches
would work in with any on-page touches they have in place.
