Default Google: My head hurts from banging it against a brick wall... - 12-08-2004 , 06:47 AM

I am so puzzled about Google recently...

Why would typing search term Loan Servicing Software in www.google.com
bring up these two sites above my clients?

This page' SERPs is #16
http://www.knowledgestorm.com/search.../1219/1219.jsp

The google bar is showing PR3 and there are no backward links...
yahoo.com reports just 0 Bls also.

This pages' SERPs is #17
www.ezdesk.com/search/smartsearch.
cgi?keywords=mortgage+loan+servicing+software

The google bar is showing PR0 and there are no backward links...
yahoo.com reports just 2 Bls

My client, www.disc-calif.com, is languishing at #18 with a PR5 and 6
bona fida BLs

I am currently in the process of increasing the amount of BLs to my
clients site... not easy as the links to the site need to be relevant
sites with a higher PR to make a big impact. I have also suggested to
the client that they write articles and submit them to relevant business
websites but had little positive response to that suggestion.

In a nutshell is there something about the design of the site that is
hurting its SERPs in Google... The site is performing well in other
search engines. Have I over optimised the site for the phrase loan
servicing software?

I sincerely appreciate all constructive criticism...

TIA

Perhaps I overlooked something, but I when I click to the subpage "Loan
Servicing: Participating Loans", I see no backlink to
loan-servicing-software.html with the anchor text "Loan Servicing
Software". That's an obvious improvement, I would think. You could add
bread crumbs, for example.

Hi Rene,

Thank you so much for your response... doesn't the top anchor text on
the left hand navigation suffice?

Loan Servicing Software Solutions links to loan-servicing-software.html

I have tried to ensure that all pages are just two clicks away from
where ever the reader wishes to be...

Hmmm... I'm sure it wasn't there less than an hour ago. But I may have
overlooked it :-)

By the way, I see PR 0 on loan-servicing-software.html. Is it a new page
and not yet ranked?

Trust me - you did over look it... that same link is on all the other
pages...

Yes - newish... although in their database though...

You are #1 for "disc homepage". I wonder why.
Best regards, Eric.

Look at the anchor text of your IBLs, for example those from
http://www.loanledger.com/ (which I assume your client owns) has the
anchor text disc-calif.com which is a very poor choice. You want the
Loan Servicing Software SERP, use that exact phrase and derivatives
for the links to the page you want to rank highly.

I didn't see any decent links with the right anchor text, so most of
the SERP (position 18) is most likely to do with on page site factors,
basically your IBLs aren't working for you!

BTW why the H2 header surrounding an image? The marginbottomzero
class.

Even if it had an effect on alt text, the text used "Dynamic Interface
Systems Corporation" isn't very helpful to the page.

I'd change the logo-disc.gif image into an image link to home page on
every page it is on and have alt text "Loan Servicing Software" or
"Loan Servicing Software Home"

Also be aware the alt attribute of non linking images will not help a
site in Google. So this image loan-servicing-software-system.gif with
alt text "Loan Servicing Software Systems" is not helping the pages
SERPs. If you changed this image into a link it would.

Then you have a contact image link from this image contactdisc.gif
with alt text "Contact DISC". Better alt text would be "Loan Servicing
Software Systems - Enquiry Form" (the title of the page it links to).

The red image links on the right menu under the free demo link and
DISC Homepage, now the alt text of those are working for the site.
Lots of relevant text about loan software. This and the other on page
optimization is probably why you are at number 18 and not below 100
due to the poor anchor text of IBLs.

You see text code applied to graphics all the time. Sometimes it can
be very tricky to spot as there can be so much of it.

I'd agree with that. Hey! Christmas is early......

Apparently not anywhere.

sounds like link spam scheme.
