Default Google links update - 11-03-2003 , 02:37 PM

Hi all.

I would like to know how much time google needs to update the links
pointing to a site, or what I do wrong..
There are several pages on the internet that link to my website, but I
don't see them in the 'link:www.edenpics.com' search term from google
to find out how many links are pointing to my site.
I have already submitted these specific pages some weeks ago, but
there are no results. The links are real links too, not 'goto' links
(redirections), so they should be seen by google. Also, these pages
are findable through a search of 'edenpics' in google, which means
that it IS in the google database.

For example, http://www.ravenmorris.com/ is linking to me since 22th
of June of this year (seen in the google cache version), but it does
not appear in the 'link:www.edenpics.com' search tool from google.
And there are several other links having this problem.

Does somebody have an idea ?

Thanks,
Daniel - Edenpics.com

In the past Google only ever showed links from sites over a certain PR
threshold (probably a high 3) - it used to take several of the
traditional monthly updates to pick them all up.

Now Google only returns, what they call, "a sample" of backlinks. All
the criteria for the "sample" is not known (but, there is still a PR
of the site that the link is from threshold) - it also appears to me
that the criteria seems to vary.

My guess is that Google do not show all links for 2 reasons:
1) It consumes resources when searching for them (Google are in the
business of providing service to those who are searching... they are
not in the business of providing services to webmasters, such as
searching for links)
2) If they provided all the links, some reverse engineering of ranking
can be done

Even though Google do not show all/any backlinks - do not worry about
it - if the page that the link is from is in Google, then they will be
counting it towards PR.

Hi Craig,

Thank you for your very interesting thought.
I hope that it is working like you say. And it could well be so
because of your arguments.

It's what I wanted to know:
If Google takes into account only the links that are displayed with
the 'link:' option, or do they link more than that.
You have seen my hidden question

Thank again,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Go to http://www.ravenmorris.com/
and see source for your link:
LI>Created title images for each page by modifying scenery pictures freely
available from EdenPics.com

Added a green tile for the background of the page, also a modified image
from EdenPics.com

yout http is not there!

so if you klick on the link => 0, zero, nada, zip... will not take you
anywere.
As well as Google will not go to your site..

Google takes into account all links it knows about and can follow.

Hello, Admin.

Thank you for pointing this out. I didn't see that his link is not
really linking to my site..

Perhaps there are really only 5 people linking to me..

Kind regards,

Daniel
