Default google and languages with inflection - 05-18-2005 , 02:52 PM

Hi All,

Anybody able to tell what google does when there is inflection in the
language?

The problem is - I want to use a word in keywords and in title. If someone
uses search engin s/he uses word "chlopiec", so that must be the form
present in keywords. However, for a title to have a meaning in Polish
I have to use the word in slightly different form - something like
"chlopiec" vs "chlopcem" ("boy" vs. form used in phrase "with a boy").
The same word - in other forms - will be present in the text - will it
be counted as a reapeating keyword? Probably not...

Polish search engines are able to deal with the problem and they 'know'
both forms are one word. What google will do?

Best,
Borek

I have found that even in English it can be a problem. It seems that page
should be optimized for either "flying rug" or "flying rugs" - even if
it makes no sense to differentiate between both forms, as they will be
present on the page - "our flying rugs will take you away in no time,
every flying rug comes with three years warranty"

Any comments? Which is better - keyword optimization for "rug" or "rugs"?

Hi Borek,

Well, since I am an authority on rugs, you should optimize both. :-) Any way
yes optimizing on both plural and singular helps. If it is something that no
one will search or not common for being plural then keep the singular and
visa versa. With rug/s though both are very common and you want to be at the
top for both!

It is known as stemming. Google does stemming in English but only where
there are few results for the non-stemmed version.
