Default Google index seems out of date and new pages are not indexed - 06-04-2006 , 01:27 PM

Hi all...

my site - www.worldtrip.co.uk

about two months ago I used 'google removal' page to remove a phpBB
from their index. (when site:www.worldtrip.co.uk - it found 113 pages,
mainly phpBB)... please note that the phpBB had already been removed
from my server for AT LEAST 5-6months and the pages where 404.

I thought using the google request removal would actually remove these
from the the google index.... but no.... they're still there in
site:www.worldtrip.co.uk 2 months later!!!!

1. Does anyone know how to get rid of these broken links from the
index??? ( they are supplemental)

2. Supplemental pages (which most of mine are!!) never seem to be
updated in the index?? is this correct??? mine are months, if not years

out of date!!!! if they are not updated.... what good are they in the
index?!!!

3. New pages I've made since using the 'google removal' have been
spidered but not appearing in index (they've been live for 2 months)...

is this due to google's 160 day exclusion due to using the removal

Many Thanks guys/girls.... i'm pulling my hair out here. I've spent a
long time on this site and it now seems to have been in vain due to
google. PLEASE HELP

Matt.

It's all muddled up. Google tried to introduce a bit too much too
quick, IMHO. So many, many people are seeing the same things you are.
Endure.

It is possible that search engines can't follow any of your intended links
from your home page because there is no starting <body> tag. Run an html
validation checker.

Best regards, Eric.

I wonder how this is going to affect the next PR update. It could be
delayed because of all this.

In my experience, don't bother. Google at some point or other does
find the 404's and removes them from the index. It's actually more
useful to have custom 404's so that if a user does hit them from the
index, they are more likely to navigate the site as it may be "on
topic".

Not an issue for the many people whose sites no longer appear.

Google is having some serious problems with their latest couple of
updates.

1) The site: operator has been broken several times.
2) Sites are losing their pages and getting them back 24 hours later
due to testing. Google stated that the problem did not exist, but in
April and May said that it was fixed.
3) Graywolf reported that Google was showing content from the wrong
domain name on a shared server. Matt Cutts said this was due to a
misconfigured, old webserver and that they are working on repairing
this bug.
4) Then there is the rumor of Google's machines being full that Google
denies.

My advice is to let it ride and DO NOT fret about or make any major
changes to your web site until this is all sorted out.

Google has been made aware of the recent problems and are working on
them.
