Default Google Definitions and SEO - 04-12-2005 , 01:41 AM

With google always changing what it ranks highly, whats going to rank well
next?? Reciprocal links will get you PR and get you indexed by google but SE
spammers are making this sort of SEO less credible. It seems now google is
ranking dynamic content, frequently update sites high, such as blogs.

I was hoping to get some feedback on this thought I had about if it is worth
having a glossary on your site - defining terms that relate to your site.
(Eg - kruse.co.uk could have a glossary of SEO terms).

I only thought of this because when i want a definition for a term I enter
'define: widget' into google, and get a list of definitions sourced from a
variety of different sites...how do these sites feature in google definions?
Do these sites rank higher because they feature here?

However there are dynamically generates shitespammy sites too which
really injure the search results.
Until google gets a grip on this and other issues its not providiing
the best results.

You could have a glossary. It'd be what is commonly known as
"content".

I have some theorys about forums, newsgroups and their relationship to
SEO.
Again these are areas wide open to spam.

As more criminals get onto the net we'll see more nasty tactics which
the SE will have to battle against.

Dynamic content is different from frequently updated content.

It doesn't?

Thing with a glossary is, if you don't trumpet your own provenance all
over it and make it an obvious advert for your site, there are places
you can get it into (like Zeal maybe) that you couldn't get a
commercial site into. So you can get a link from there that otherwise
you wouldn't.
I forget why I didn't do one, I had a reason.

My guess - totally boring - a continuation of the past gradual trend towards
pages that better satisfy the searchers.

Reciprocal links may or may not get you PR or help your page in the
rankings. If you link to rubbish sites you may be degraded. If you are
linked from rubbish sites it is not likely to do you any good. If you
demand reciprocal links you are participating in a link scheme and should
expect to be degraded. You should delete every outgoing link that is of no
benefit to your site visitors.

If other things are equal, a page with frequently updated content sounds
interesting and therefore worth looking at.

Best regards, Eric.
