Google Dance Question

I'm a relative newcomer to SEO, so please bear with me as I post a few
dumb questions in this forum:

I know what the google-dance is, but don't know:

-- How long it takes

-- How long database updates etc. take.

What I'm building up to is: The Google dance seems to have begun, so
when should I expect to see results?
