Default Google Cycle - 08-05-2003 , 11:26 AM

I made some changes to our home page in mid July.

We were visited July 26, July 29 and Aug 2, but the changes were not picked
up in time for the re-ranking that seems to have occurred yesterday.

Hopefully, with this and additional information from the rest of you, we can
get a handle on the length of the cycle under Google's new patterns.

Todd

From what I have observed, Freshbot runs all the time now and update
cycles are short. In the last few weeks, I've added new pages, had
them crawled, and seen them in Google within about a week or less. The
difference from the past is that now they seem to "stick" instead of
staying in the DB for only a few days.

Why do you think your site would have a higher Page Rank after
updates? What is your PR in the Google toolbar? Give us a URL. Does
Google show your site updates in its cache?

Actually, the changes involved adjustments to our title and description,
which should improve our results for certain keywords.

If you see it in Google's cache for your page and Google picked it up
over a week ago, it probably has updated the database, unless your
page has a low page rank and it adjusts those only rarely. It could be
the changes you made did not help as you expected. By "description" I
assume you mean "text on the page" and not a Meta tag, which is pretty
worthless with Google...

Why isn't google updating Page Rank? I'm just curious.
From what I've seen all my pages are being cached in an expedient
manner, but the PR has stayed the same for what seems to be an
eternity!! I have added a considerable amount of high quality links
in the past month and have yet to see one show up in my backlinks.

No idea why they haven't updated PR. I think it's not something simple
to do - probably takes a while to do it without disrupting the
results. Google is hard to predict - they seem to change their game
plan fairly often. They recently changed how they crawl and add/update
pages for example.

By "high quality" do you mean the PR of the backlinks to you is high?
How many links to your site with high PR have recently been added?

Best you can do is just be patient and keep adding as many links as
you can get.
