anyone know if these web tools exist and have a url?? 1) a site that you enter a url and it tells you how big the full dowload is and how fast on 56k, 28k, broadband, etc. |

I keep a pay-as-you-go dialup account for just this purpose. I found one tool on the web that was sposed to simulate it, but it didn't work very well. I don't think there's any better way to see if a page is too large than to actually sit there on dialup waiting for it to finish loading; besides else one can see what *order* it downloads in, which can be significant, for instance if the table layout means that the page is blank until all elements have downloaded. I don't think a dry statistic like "45 seconds" would really give the same impression; and it doesn't matter if a page looks marvellous if surfers are just backing out from boredom ![]() |
