Default Frames question - 12-10-2004 , 02:10 AM

I am putting a Website together with frames for the first time. No matter
which page I navigate to, the title bar displays the title of the frameset.
Needless to say, the Website title relevancy is lousy as a result. Can I
fix this while keeping the frames, or do I have to lose the frames to get
decent title bar relevancy?

George

Framed layout will limit you to only one title site-wide being
displayed.

You can use <title> on the other pages [would do so anyway, if it were
me] - they just won't display thought.

Oh, and you may want to look up the javascript for, if someone comes
across one of the pages OUTside of the frames, to have it load into
the frame layout for them. Otherwise they won't have the site
navigation available as you probably have that in in a frame to the
left. The javascript will only work if someone has javascript enabled
.... estimated about 20% of folks don't.

If you don't want one site wide title - then you will have to ditch
using frames. If considering the latter; I've got time to kill - if
you like I can look at the site for you and help with some
suggestions. Let me know.

The point of my original post, Barbara, was that I was getting reports of
lousy relevancy of my title to the body of the Web page. The appropriate
place to pose that as an HTML question was alt.html. Since SEO folks might
know how to resolve the relevancy issue for frames-based sites, I posted a
related but different question here. How silly of me. I apologize,
Barbara.

might know how to resolve the relevancy issue for frames-based sites, I

So, despite the advise given to you in <news:alt.html> to ditch frames
(which is good for humans and seach engines) and your response <q>Looks
like I did a lot of work for nuthin'</q>, you will stick to frames.

What ever.

Maybe read into html and css for a while before asking more silly
questions:
<http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/>
<http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/>
<http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/Guide/Style.html>
<http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-CSS21-20020802/cover.html>

And check the links on 'frames are evil' that are given repeatedly in
<news:alt.html>, as well as in <news:alt.html.critique> and
<news:comp.infosystems.www.authoring.html>. Read last weeks posts of those
three newsgroups and this newsgroup and you will have an answer to your
question and much to your surprise to other questions as well.

Please fix your newsclient as it should snip off a signature with a
sig-separator.
