Default forged email address - 10-14-2003 , 12:44 PM

I've been receiving stacks of bounced emails for the past week sent to me
because my email address has been forged (I was NOT the sender).
They usually have the same e mail subject header which says " Subject:
UNLIMITED SALES POTENTIAL cltpizd dfuqim u"
My guess is that the senders may have a virus which forges the sending email
address. Short of trying to id the IP for each one of these, is there an
easy way to stop them? I would post the message and headers, but guess that
would be too much? Michael Roberts

Sounds like someone is spoofing your email address, and probably not a
virus. It's been happening to me for a while and is an absolute pain!
Spammers commonly spoof email addresses to send out their spam so that
they cannot easily be identified.

If you can locate a contact at the website the spammers are advertising,
you might be able to send them a complaining email. In my experience,
though, it's often the case that there isn't any obvious contact at the
advertised website, so there's not a lot you can do.

I know just how you feel! The bounced emails are a problem, but just
imagine how many people might actually be receiving the spam and
thinking it originates from you - not a nice thought. I have actually
put up a 'spam policy' page at my own website to explain the situation
to people who might receive the spam and then go to my domain to see who
I am.

Cheers.
