Default First Time Submittals - 12-12-2005 , 07:32 PM

Hello --

I am working on submitting my client's website to the top Directories
and Search Engines. Where do I find the latest list for the most worthy
Directories/Engines (Dmoz, Yahoo, Google, etc.) and most importantly,
when I submit my url to each engine, don't I need to submit each and
every web page existing within our site..? I think we have 50 or so..

Thank you in advance ~

Don't. Try to get a link with a nice PR.

Hello John

Itīs the first time that i read this opinion...but is it bad to submit
in any way?
Not bad, but a good incoming link might have your page(s) in Google in a
day, or two. You can submit, but I have no idea how long it takes Google
to pick your site up in that case. Wouldn't amaze me if it's a month or
more.

Same holds for stuff like DMOZ. I've heard that people wait for months,
and months before they are added (if ever).

Doesn't mean that you shouldn't submit to DMOZ, but I would focus on
incoming links. And if it's a very new site (new domain) I would go slow
at that.

That depends if you consider your time to be valuable. I have already
spent some time trying to submit very relevant sites to DMOZ. Even a
Florida architect is apparently not worthy of having his dot com regis-
tered under the Florida architects category. It's often pointless.

Submittal to search engines is /definitely/ pointless because, much like
pinging service, the forms (even with CAPTCHA) are open to misuse by spam-
mers and greedy Webmasters. Even with filters on pinging services, I be-
lieve 80% of the traffic is pure spam. That's what I've been told. Think
of the existence of such submittal tools as legacy (like meta data) or
something to get the hopes of Webmasters up, often in vain.

Type in Christopher Richards into google and click on the second link. There
is a good article on SEO there. Also, if you want to sign up for an account
you can get a list of search engines. Hope this helps.

Don't submit to engines, only directories. For the engines you just
need links to the site from another site. I give a lot of guidance on
directory submission at www.kruse.co.uk/linkpop.htm

You obviously haven't read any old posts on this newsgroup then, or
anywhere else for that matter. It is a very wildly held opinion and fact.

Of course in the case of Google a site with no inbound links cannot
acquire any page rank so will not show up in the index whether it is
submitted or not.
