Default Ethical Adwords? - 12-20-2003 , 09:42 PM

Hi group - I have signed up for Google's Adwords program. I was thinking of
putting keywords in my adword campaign that may reflect my local major
competitor.

Do you think this is a good idea ? I know my competitor does not subscribe
to adwords.

Thanks - sorry for the mundane question -- I'm a newbie.

david

I think there may be court case pending about that very practice. Keep
an eye on the tech & business news.

But perhaps Hunter meant triggering the ad on the competitor's keywords?
I don't think there's anything wrong with that. However, if you use your competitor's
name or/and product names in the text that is displayed, then you might ask for trouble.

You can bid on what you like provided you are not using Trademark names or
Copyrighted slogans. These techniques are 'expected' in Capitalism. Dirty
play is a standard.

Hi All - I guess I wasn't specific enough!

For an example: we both sell gift baskets online. However, I am located in
the city of Toronto while her store is located outside Toronto in a small
town called Uxbridge. So - do you think it's Ok if I use 'gift baskets
Uxbridge' as a keyword/phrase ? ?

Thanks again.

david

I'd say that as long as you honestly wish to do business with folks in that
location, then the "Uxbridge" term isn't unethical at all.

If you are both selling ibm computers, than by all means use ibm in your
ads. If he is selling a unique or trademarked product, still do it. It may
take him a while to find an attorney before he can sue you. All is fair in
love and war.
