which effects can online PR and RSS have on ranking?

I wonder about which effects can have online press releases and rss
feeds services on a website ranking :

a) be linked by online press releases network and rss feeds services
CAN IMPROVE your site ranking due to the nomber of backlinks and the
higher page rank of who is linking to you.

b) search engines see lot of duplicated content linking to you and
therefore CAN PENALIZE your site ranking

c) search engines NEITHER IMPROVE your ranking NOR PENALIZE your site
for been linked by press releases or rss sites.

d) NO EFFECTS on ranking but a MORE FREQUENT visit by search engines's
spiders due to links from higher page rank websites.

Finally, at least on the website launch , would you recommend to use
press releases and rss feeds ?

The only good thing is that every time the spider visits your site your
content is different + backlinks... the other thing is that you're not
having your content unique... We've been trying to work on that issue
by creating a stand alone portal like site based only on RSS/XML
content and see how it will rank...

My guess is that the site's won't be penalized... in that way nobody
would use the feeds... Any other thoughts ?
