Default Eclipsed by my main competitor... - 05-10-2004 , 05:31 PM

Let's say I deal in a type of product called widjetts (which I dont).
My main competitor long ago established the the url
"www.widjetts.com".

I, on the other hand, have long been using a name such as AAwidj.com.
(not the full name of the product in the domain name). Is that why my
main competitor is getting many times more hits than me, primarily
from MSN search (he also gets more hits than me from Google and
Yahoo). In fact his constantly high ranking is really stifling my
business. I don't get the impression that he's a ranking wizard or
anything, judging my his rlatively poor use of meta tags.

My site is just as content-rich as his, if not more, and I think I'm
making better use of meta tags, but he's still getting loads more hits
than me. I've tried all the tactics I know, but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for any help.

Mcbain

Forget about meta tags. They're meaningless to Google and pretty much
irrelevant to all major search engines AFAIK.

Without seeing the sites in question there's nothing more I can add. If you
post your URL you'll might get some useful input.

aawidj may be buying advertising

the combination of content, meta tags, the title definition and headings
is what matters. aawidj may not have the best meta tags, but if the
content is more meaningful aawidj will outrank you, at least on Google.

We can't help unless we know the url. All we can do is guess. I don't
think we can guess well enough to help. You're probably best off
contacting one or two of us directly. We have to be discreet upon
occasion, it goes with the badge.

Thank you very much for the replies.
I understand what you say about posting my URL. Here is my URL:

www.aaXnotes.com (remove the X first)

My main competitor: www.banXknotes.com (Again, remove the X)

He gets about seven times more hits than me on Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Hope you will not type the URL's or the product details in this
thread, please. Thank you; very much appreciated.

your competitor's site has 412 links pointing to it; you have only 14

there are very few links to internal pages on your homepage; that is also a
factor.

work on getting some inbound links. You also might want to reconsider the
design of your site.

Or at least remove the below cut and paste that is actually
unnecessary and looks silly on the page from the reader's side of the
deal. What follows the upteen <p>.<p> thingies you could spin into
being a separate page on the site.

aa-bankXnotes.com (remove the X) is available. I suggest grabbing it
and asking the SEO experts here (I am not one of them) for advice on
how to best benefit from having two websites.

That was odd, that, I've never seen it before. I agree about a
separate page there. You could lose most of the meta tags as they are
superfluous anyway. It looks as though the site was written freehand
by someone who doesn't grasp the medium. You'd do well to try redoing
it with a WYSIWIG editor. Really you either need to study SEO for ages
or pay someone to do it. Even though your competitor's site is written
in <spit>Front Page</spit> it's a lot better designed than yours. In
the immediate future, perhaps you should find some design templates
and work around one of them.

Have a poke around in here, it should give you some ideas. And it's
free, since you're keen on collecting b*n*n*t*s it should appeal!
