Default Doorway Pages - anyone been banned? - 07-19-2004 , 12:24 PM

Hello,

I'm thinking about creating a few doorway pages. All my competitors
have doorway pages and I feel if I don't I will be "left in the dust"
by my competitors.

Has anybody's main site (not doorway page) been banned or penalized by
having doorway pages?

Has anybody's doorway pages been banned? If so, how does that affect
your main site if any?

Why create fake doorway pages?

Why not create real unique content pages that serve and alternative entry
points into your site?

That would give you the benefit of not only being protected from being
banned but also adding more relevant pages where visitors might find you
via search engines as well as providing more information to your visitors.

For every topic you can think of that remotely relates to your websites,
create 1 page specifically for that 1 narrow topic. Write 1 page per day.

In our opinion, Doorway pages are a waste of time these days.

Get good content, plenty of IBL's and add to your content weekly at least.
Tricks will never help you long term, good SEO/Site building will.

What about pages that you build up to PR4 using sleazily acquired links,
that you then stuff with links to internal pages of your sites? Each
link, of course, being stuffed with anchor text?

Thoughts?

Every page of a site is in effect a doorway, to get banned it has to be
recognised and as I understand it the only way that happens is if some one
reports it to Google. The answer is to optimise the pages of your site for
different terms. Hell, so that means creating good, individual, relevant,
content on a given subject that isn't going to be mistakingly identified and
reported as spam.

As previous threads have said- why bother with doorways when if you made the
site properly in the first place there would't be a need.

Will help a bit but not as much as links from sites outside your own.

It is dangerous.

1. Google explicitly says no-no in its recomendation.
2. I seemed was banned for it (see my recent post in this thread). I
actually made doorway page for AddWords only, but forgot to write
NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW (I also did not suspect that it was not recommended
by Google). I believe one of my competitor dropped Google the
messages. I believe this was the actual reason because this was the
only recent major change.

I quickly fixed it but still have PR0 for the site (some its
directores still have PR4 because was not directly related to my new
software, for which I use AddWords)

Does it define what a doorway page is though? And could you not build
something that falls outside the usual concept but effectively does
the job?
