Well definitely you would want to host these pages elsewhere... like
Geocities! ;-)

Hello,

I'm thinking about creating a few doorway pages. All my competitors
have doorway pages and I feel if I don't I will be "left in the dust"
by my competitors.

Has anybody's main site (not doorway page) been banned or penalized by
having doorway pages?

Has anybody's doorway pages been banned? If so, how does that affect
your main site if any?

Define doorway pages.

I think more importantly, how does Google Define doorway pages??

why not ask it "define:doorway pages" =

"A webpage designed to rank well on a specific search engine for a specific
keyword phrase. These pages usually rely on frequent repetition of the
keyword phrase, and often try to "trick" search engines into ranking them
well. See my article on Doorway Pages for more information."

In its strictest terms that means that every page with optimisation on it is
a doorway, the question is how does Google differentiate between blatant
doorways and just good optimised content? The answer is with great
difficulty otherwise optimisation wouldn't work - and of course we know it
does.

Does it define what a doorway page is though? And could you not build
something that falls outside the usual concept but effectively does
the job?
No, but they write that they don't like it.

I may understand why.

The reason is exactly that it is difficult to distinguish between
legitimate doorway, supported by site content, and pure spam. Only
human may distinguish and it takes time. Considering how many pages
they index they simply has no time to do it. The robots seem not so
intellectual yet so errors are unavoidable.

I had some bonehead at Zeal claim that http://www.nuclearnow.org/ was a
doorway page because of the links to other sites in the page footer.
