Domains and duplicate content

I have a client that has a .ca and .com with the same name. He wants to
host the site on different servers until he is confident his new server
is good enough (no down time) to host all his sites. Will having a .ca
and a .com on different servers hosting the exact same content harm him?
Or will the engines realize not care since the domain names are the same?

Are both domains listed at the moment?
You could run into dangerous territory by doing this wrong this if you ask
me.
