a few moths ago i moved my site to http://ssfans.com/ from

can you give me any tips on getting google to understand the old site has
been replaced?

A "this site has moved to... " link will ensure that the new url is spidered.
But Google may keep listing the old urls, even if the files no longer exist,
for some time. You have to persuade everyone who has set inbound links to
change them, but it takes some time.

Put a .htaccess file to the root directory of the old site:

Redirect permanent /whatever/index.html http://newserver/index.html

I don't think tripod.com will allow him to use an .htaccess file
