How does Google know which site to drop? |

It doesn't, that is how you can lose both. It sometimes keeps the 1st one that was indexed. |
Just that logic seems/should be on the side of keeping 1st indexed

It doesn't, that is how you can lose both. It sometimes keeps the 1st one that was indexed. This kind of situation/possibility opens some new grounds for "abuse" I think. If someone want to make sure competition's life is hard, just get some suspicious hosting service, host there few copies of competitor's site and then make sure all copys gets submitted to google... I think google should stick on keeping 1st indexed site, or otherwise it would be too easily possible to abuse system. Not that I'd know what does Just that logic seems/should be on the side of keeping 1st indexedsite. |

This has been done before. And people have complained that their site was copied. These sites can be removed if the person of the original site complains under the Digital Millennium Copyright Laws. So, basically someone still can not get away with that kind of abuse. |

And say, hosting is from china, russia or some other place where they host about anything without any problems? I am sure site can be wiped out, but how long it takes before google can "fix" damage that's done to original site? ![]() It do not take rocket scientist to hide most of trails WHO did get all those shadow sites up so it would not be easy to find person behind it to sue them. |

True, it can be hard to sue people for that. But, Google will still remove those sites that are still in violation. If Google is warned in advance before anything happens then, it should take that long. Some bad sites have been removed before the good sites get removed. |

I had a site copy my title and description for a page that had nothing on it. I luckily got the person to remove it. I threatened him with the contact of the SE"s. |
Heh, I am "pessimist" so I expect always worst and see
