Default Do external links work if neither site is listed? - 09-17-2003 , 09:34 PM

Okay... I am a SERIOUS newbie. Not a clue...
Just lurking around trying to gather some information and trying my old
tired fingers at something new.
I don't expect anything to come from my site, but it was free and lets
me experiment with Dreamweaver and my memory of HTML.
Knew everything in HTML way back before XML, CGI XHTML, FUHTML, blah
blah blah.
Anyway... my question, as naiive as it is:

If I have a bunch of free sites linking to each other, is that going to
increase their chances of being crawled or whatever.

Am I dreaming?

Am I really here?

feel free to check the site and comment (hopefully laugh wholeheartedly).

cheers.

yep - as long as one of them gets spidered, they all will eventually.

how you get the ball rolling I'll leave to your creative imagination ;o)

Hi,

You'll be happy to hear that simple HTML tends to fair better in the
search engines than the latest code with all it's whistles and bells.

My best performing page (gets most hits from search engines) is as
plain as it gets, standard HTML with three images and a lot of text
(mostly in simple <p> tags).

No more likely than a bunch of pages on one domain. If you want to do
well you'll need links from sites that are already indexed and have
reasonable PR (PR4, PR5). There is a chance Google will visit your
sites now since I and probably several others on this NG with the
Google Toolbar installed have visited the site.

I think your dreaming if you think people are going to donate money to
you just because it makes you feel good!

BTW nothing wrong with free domain names, I have a netfirms one on
Ebooks that has PR5 and hasn't been marketed, but gets 50 visitors a
day.

Funnily enough it's got 9th position in the SERPs for the search-

"This site is hosted by Netfirms Web Hosting" (the netfirms text part
of the advert) ))))

It's 1st for Free Ebooks UK (not many searches for that though).
It's also number 1 for - High Profit Businesses (name of the only
ebook on the site LOL).

David, why do you think my site has PR5 when I have no backlinks of any real
worth?
Is my PR5 purely generated from my own internal linking?

Thanks for the comments. I don't really believe anyone will give. Just
don't want to have another one of those sites that nobody even knows
about, even if it is kinda lame.

Cheers!

Hi Mark,

It's (probably) the two backlinks from a Macromedia blogg to your old
domain (the unhyphenated one) which then links to your new domain.
Didn't even have to look to tell you that as remembered it from my
last look at your sites :-))

On it's own you'd be lucky to see PR3 for your home page with no real
incoming links.
