The (ridiculous) requirement to choose one and only one identity
hides important information. Understanding that limitation requires
a little abstract thinking. But it becomes obvious, with a little
logic and reflection.
But DMOZ does list individual pages of websites. So classifying one's site
"only one way" isn't necessary after all. One of my sites has 7 different
DMOZ listings (7 different pages), in 4 categories. But a single webpage can
only go in one category.

Getting to that point was a long struggle. I was an 'editor' of a cat
(category)
for several years. I had *many* deep links (that I entered) removed by
more senior
editors. Gradually the prejudice against multiple page listings has
relaxed (deep linking now less frowned upon than it once was) which is
good.

But deep linking is still an ideological struggle of sorts.
So I would say both sides of this argument are partially valid:
there is still too much information hiding at DMOZ, but less than there
once was.

The ODP prejudice against the shopping/informational divide remains.
Many commercial sites (that have shopping carts, etc) seek to attract
customers by providing excellent information.

And if you try to reference those sites in an informational category,
at ODP, you'll get your head chopped off. This is silly.

Really? My site I mentioned sells books, and most would, at first glance,
see that as its primary purpose.

But 6 or our 7 DMOZ links are in informational categories (as they should
be).

Thes site is also informational site, with a vast number of biographical &
bibliographical pages, photo & image galleries, essays, reviews, information
for booksellers & those who seek publishing opportunities, etc.

Only the link to our homepage is in a commercial category (though not in the
"shopping" category - but in a booksellers category in the arts category).

I am surprised that relevant links in an informational category should get
one "head chopped off."

best,
Denise

web site.

So, go whine some place else.

Yeah, it's slowly getting quiet here. One reason why I haven't
unsubscribed from this group, I hate to turn off the light.
If I need anything you can do I'll be in touch.

You got that wrong.

Google is NOT stupid. Stupid is as Stupid does. So, that makes the
idiot trying to search on Google, stupid.

Or, If you are so smart why aren't you rich?

Or better yet, if your time is so valuable why are you wasting it here?
No 12 hour days? No paying customers, eh? Why am I NOT surprised?

Personally, I have absolutely no problems searching on any search
engine.

Thanks. BTW, the unsubscribing thing has most to do with that I want to
use that time to extend my blog, especially since it looks like its going
somewhere :-)
