Default Delete some images from my site, anything suffers? - 01-17-2006 , 04:00 PM

I have deleted some images from my server, and I saw that they were in
Google images.

If Google doesn't find them, my page rank will suffer, I mean..my place
in search resoult?

It can do. All depends how your images were added.

The main index, how can the place suffer if no images are indexed. I don't
think so. I haven't seen any evidence of it. I change images quite often,
well not so much in the last year as I wasn't making to many rugs with me
moving, but when I have them out and in my rankings never suffered. Plus the
image index is different from the main index.

Stacey,

I get requests for angry wolf and snarling wolf. Both of these images
are cached by google. If I were to remove them for the site,
eventually they will disappear from google. - In which case they would
suffer the ranking of that particular keyword, yes ?

As he didn't mention if the images used alt attribute or not doesn't
help, hence I said All depends how your images were added.

If he just added images without some sort of identifcation, then they
wouldn't appear in targeted SERPS anyway.

Well yeah, I get hits for sucker fish and fish, I know those hits came from
the image search. Now, do you get hits for angry wolf for the regular index
or image index. I removed loads of rag rug photos and have them more changed
for throw rugs, and my site hasn't fallen for rag rugs.

Hmm, maybe he changed them or don't used them again which is kind of what
the OP sounded like, he seen them in the image search so he deleted them
from his server. Now since he probably doesn't use them then how can that
hurt his rankings? And it shouldn't matter if he isn't using them anymore.
BTW Google will even keep old images for awhile, I change the names and
delete my images alot. Well because of what John said...leeches. My server
still gets hit hard for fish, sucker fish, pattern, patchwork, etc. These
are just for images and not my main SERPs.

Yep, today alone, the top three image searches are

http://images.google.com/imgres 810
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres 154
http://images.google.ca/imgres 129

Quote:

Mainly, if not all, for image. Some dip in and leave, other start at
that page, carry on browsing, and then get a link back to my site

Yes, but "rag rugs" is about your site. Which would be found via
normal search. My site is not about angry wolves or snarling ones, but
if they were removed, (and eventually removed from both main index and
image index) then I would lose the SERP for those.

It depends if they were used for targeted keywords. You seem to be
missing the point between the ranking for his site (in general) or a
particular SERP

You site is about rag rugs. If you had a pic of an elephant on your
site, (And seen in image index) - with the alt text of "big fat
bastard" and then removed the image, it would not hurt your SERP for
rag rug, but would hurt it for "big fat bastard" - Taking into account
that you have nothing else on your site about BFB's

Exactly ........ main SERP - Op didn't say if it was his main SERP or
not.

I use this images for products, but those products aren't in my
database anymore..for a long time..

I need to free some space..and I take the deceision to delete some
images.

I only rely on regular search, not image search.

All of this images have alt tags.

Please take a minute an look here..

I delete images like this flat screen, but those products aren't
anymore in my database.

Firstly, please do delete the other post that you are referring to. It
makes things harder for people to follow, and to know who you are
talking to. Thank you.

All depends on the type of site you run. I have many inbound links
because of images, clipart etc. - You cannot beat inbound links

Doesn't really matter with the page you gave, as google and yahoo do
not know about the page, only MSN does. If it is not cached, then
removing images is not a problem.

Took a bit of time to load even on DSL. The page is not cached, so
yes, remove whatever you like, it won't make a difference.

Go ahead and delete your images. They are not for sell and you don't need
them. But that won't keep Google from not having them. Google might keep
them in their data base for a couple of months.
