Sorry, less than 2 seconds here a little more than 1. With FF it took 2 and
1/2.

Which is odd, since I can see the HTML when I do view source...

I checked yesterday with IE also.

I am going to grab a coffee, and I'll see (or not).

Not, might be my shitty provider :-(
Well, he does have content which can be improved a little bit on the
navigation and wording, but still plenty of content.:-)

Yeah, I am afraid it's my shitty ISP again.

Wow, thank you everyone - some extremely valuable input.

The entrie database is in a flattext pipe delimited file. The pages in
the product list are generated using the database and an html template.
I generate the entire product list by exporting the html pages so that
the googlebot (and others) have something to crawl other than the
cgi-bin searchable option; which I understand isn't crawled.

I'll need to edit the perl script to include the alt tag for each image
based on the short description of the item, currently only the page
title is generated on the fly by the items page.

I'll see what else I can modify to increase the nav and wording of such
also.

I included the nocache originally as we add new items nearly every day.
My wife adds the items and then I later go back and add the photos. I
was finding that even though the new photos were in place our [image
not yet available] photo was still showing. So I added the nocache in
the meta tag to ensure that the browser looked for the new image and
not the previous one.

Content - haha.. we've got over 400 items in there now and nearly 4000
more to add yet.... When we're done.. we'll have some content alright

Stacey - I'll take you up on that, I'll email you.

Note that there is a difference between content and content. I don't
consider a catalogue entry much of content.

But... haven't still been able to look at your site.

Poor John, I would hate to have a slow internet. There is content over the
products. Nice descriptions, can be more but then it might be a little to
much.

Ok, revised my perl script to generate the 'short description" text in
an alt tag with all pictures, including the thumb nails in the search
as well.
All product pages have the short description in the title also.

Started a Friend of Friends link and added a static link for Stacey
(thanks Stacey).

Removed all the meta tags that were deemed junk. And took Stacey's idea
verbatim in regards to the "new" titling. Though I did have one
question in regards to the title that Staceu suggested. I had
originally stayed clear of using - in the title, or anywhere else for
that matter, since a person can search for "Crafts -patterns" thereby
removing pattern related items from the search. I assumed that having
these things in the title or alt tags would be deemed the same by the
search engines - that the site is crafts -product -product etc... I
take it that this is not true?

I'll start to work on some rewording of key links and changing the
remianing non-product pages to reflect the same linking as the home
page.

John - I also feel sorry for you with slow access. As I beleive I
previously stated the server this sie is on is my own freebsd box, and
while I am currently developing other sites as well for myself and my
father, this site is currently the only accessible one and therefore
traffic is well under par for the server. The server is also on dual T1
with load balancing. I don't believe it is the server. But I'll check
to make sure.

I'm off to change the wording and to generate a new sitemap.xml - oh..
that's something else. I'm using KewWord Crawler to generate the google
sitemap.xml, though it also provides me with top keywords it found from
all 600+ pages. Now some of these are redundant like "the", "friend",
etc.. But those aside, should the keywords I use for the site be those
words that are used most often on the site?
Meaning - Should I change the keywords in the meta tag to match the
highest found or should I really revamp the working across my site so
that the highest used words are those that I prefer to be my keywords?
[hope I explained that correctly]

Thanks Everyone

It's only with this site, somehow. Normally I have 512kbps, which is not
very fast, but not slow (I saw someone mention 56k6 modem..)

:-(

I checked again, and the first part goes fast, then it seem to get stuck.
(I see three green squares in the progress bar).

I know that I can't see a few sites (one of my customers in the past had a
few sites I just couldn't visit, I guess his hosting provider had just
blocked Mexico :-D)

No. In a search, the - is an operator. On your site it's just text.

The odd thing is, all other sites load normally. I have 512kbps, so that
shouldn't be the real problem. It might be that my ISP does something odd
though, no idea (I know they limit the number of connections I can have).

The only problem I have had with sites is that the hosting provider
(guess) blocked out my IP range, probably because all spammers live in
Mexico (or something stupid like that).

Google, and most (if not all) other major SEs ignore those.
