Default Client has disappeared off the face of the earth!!! - 07-05-2004 , 03:04 PM

I have had a client for over 6 years that we have done very well for in
website design, usability and SEO work. In January the client decided to
try somebody new to revise their website (I still do the SEO work) and
in the past 6 months the site has gone from 50,000+ visitors down to
around 11,000 visitors. The saturation of the clients page links on all
the major engines has gone from around 345(january)and I have watched to
plummet now down to 0!!! I do SEO work for 21 other domains and they are
all doing fine... now the client (finally) wants solutions.

I have some ideas what is wrong, but to convince the client some extra
proof or testimonials is going to be needed. By the way I had to fight
with the new web guy to get him to add the robots.txt, my page titles...
and am still fighting with him to change the metas to exactly how I want
them (which I know aren=3Ft that big of a deal anymore... but still, who
is optimizing here? ...it definitely isn=3Ft him)

Here is the site address, any help will definitely be appreciated.

mhh, already wrote something to tell you that site is down, when it finally
showed up after somewhat around 30 seconds... but it's quite ok now.
you completely dropped out of google (guess you were in - but at least
for the homepage I don't see any reasons (although the html doesn't look too
good to me). Did you have any spam on the page (or did the new designer
have?)? what about similar pages / connected pages, did they drop dead, too?

Pretty site.

Downloads about 700K bytes. Definitely not for those with dial-up.

A lot of HTML errors, some CSS errors, some MS-specific CSS.

Loads the same CSS file twice.

Browser sniffer is sloppy, will mis-identify some browsers: you'd have to
try a bunch to see which work and which don't.

DOCTYPE will result in quirks mode, so there may be odd results with some
browsers.

No ROBOTS meta-tag.

There are 5 buttons at the top right, but they are very tiny, and they lack
TITLE attributes, so I don't know what they do. Not exactly user-intuitive.

Some timeout errors when accessing site.

Text size for content and menus appears to be fixed. Definitely not for
those with visual acuity problems (like me!).

Bottom line: some room for improvement!

don't toppost, and a 301 is no problem with Google, a redirect should be
visible in a few days.

Has no use, you can not force them, only send some away, and that's when
you normally use robots.txt :-D

Couple things.

Bad design overall in that it doesn't allow scriolling up and down and on my
computer, set to 1280 x 768, I can see no links at the bottom. Robots.txt
file is not necessary....don't worry about it, unless you want to EXCLUDE
some files for some reason, other wise, no purpose.

Your keywords are way to general/catch all. Focus. Because of the recent
changes to Yahoo et all, the shotgun approach will not help you at all, and
in fact might hurt.

no IBL's is killing you in Google. Get some IBL's.

It keeps your error_log clean. Check your error_log regulary, and use it
to fix problems.
