Default checking my page rank - 11-04-2003 , 04:13 PM

In a previous post, William T. kindly checked over my page ranking when we
were on another topic. The results showed that the home page had a PR of 4.
But despite clearing my own PC's cache, I keep getting a different rank.
I'm really interested in how the page ranks with a keyword search (Isn't
everyone?) .
When people say they have a PR of x or y or z. what criteria are being used?
Are they using a standard formula or keyword?
Below is the "old" discussion about my page ranking. Michael Roberts

busy adding links into my links page but with no effect on the PR.

What is the PR of the links page?

when I do a keyword search, only the home page comes up.have I
missed something?

What is the URL of your home page and your links page?
...
www.allan-smith-antique-clocks.co.uk and
has PR of 4

has PR of 0 (like all the other pages on your site I checked) which means
that your link will carry very little influence wrt: SERPs but the links
will help the target pages become indexed.

your site has been well indexed by google:
http://www.google.com/search?q=clock....co.uk&num=100
for example. replace 'clock' with 'links' and you will see a listing that
includes your links page.

PR isn't search specific. The pr is attached to a page on your domain. Diff
pages diff pr, not diff searchs diff pr.

<snip>

You may be confusing PR - Google's assessment of a page's significance based
on its inbound links - and the position that a particular site gets in the
search results - which is based on relevance to the search query and is
weighted to some extent towards the higher PR pages.

Check your Page Rank (PR) with the Google toolbar from
http://toolbar.google.com/

Check your position in the results (SERP) by searching on the different
search terms that you've targeted - I know you knew that last bit but I
wanted to clarify the difference...
