Default Changing urls -- new one not in google, old one is - 02-06-2004 , 02:13 PM

I'm updating a site. First thing I had them do is change the name from
www.extremelylongname.com to www.shortname.com
The old site was indexed by google -- and still is, although clicking on the
links from site:extremelylongname.com brings up the new pages. The old url is
parked on top of the new one.
I submitted the new site two months ago and can't get it indexed, although the
google bots have been by. site:shortname shows nothing.
Any tips on how to get google to switch the names or add the new name? The old
site had a ton of key words and no text. I'm making dramatic changes on that
for the new site.

Submit your site to google about once a week for the next 3 to 4
weeks. They should pick it up by then.

If google is still indexing the old site put a link up on it to the new
site. It should follow from there. I did this on a new site that was not
indexing and it worked within a few days.

Thanks for the info. I replaced several of the old pages with copies of the new
index page.
