Keyword question

Hello,

I am new to SEO and Google PR. When creating a website, we need to
choose keywords. Do I have to tell Google specifically about what is
the keywords of my website ? Or It is enough by inserting the keywords
in the website contents many-many times ?

How to know my website PR against certain keyword ? Is there any way
to know this ?

I meant, what is my website PR for keyword "X" ...

Kinda, yeah, hence why people will use the phrase "keyword density"
which is, ultra-simplistically, number of times you can repeat a
certain keyword or keyphrase [naturally] within the content.

No, PR [PageRank] is for the page itself and mainly in terms of
backlinks thought - not keywords.

PR is also just *one* part of many elements/thoughts in the algorithem
used by Google [and other search engines could care less what your
Google PR # is] to determine placement in results for a particular
keyword/phrase. Example: a PR3 site can beat out a PR4 or PR5 site on
placement for a search term due to part of the other elements in the
algorithem that the PR3 site has going in its favor.

You won't know that information - in terms of a particular keyword
thought that is.

What you may/can know is what your SERPs [search engine results
placement] is for "keyword X" by doing a search for that phrase/word
and seeing where your site [or a page from it] comes up at in that
search.

Hi,
I think you are getting confused with PR and ranking of the index. PR(Page
Rank) in short is a system of ranking how many other pages link to that
page. Giving it a link popularity average.

You choose words or phrase that you want your site to be brought up in the
search in the index. These are your targeted keywords. Write the content on
the web page with the targeted words. Use your keywords in the meta tags and
title.

You don't have to tell Google your keywords. The googlebot crawls and reads
your web page and chooses your page to rank in the index. The algorithm is
based on PR, links to your site, anchor text in those links, keyword
relevancy, and a few other things.

Ah! Thank you Now it's clear to me. So, in order to increase PR, I
need to have as many as backlinks. The backlinks should be in the same
website topic or not ? Or it does not matter ...
My website is about Cooking, and I got a lot of backlinks from
Healthcare website or political website.

Does internal link count? For example:

My index.html (main website) has PR6 (I wish :P), and in that page I
put a link to partners.html. Will the partners.html get benefit from
the index.html PR6 ?

Because as I understand, each page has its own PR, right?

Just to clarify a few things:
1) Google sees a link to a page as a sort of vote for that page and will
give page rank(PR) to the linked-to page depending on the PR of the page
linking to it. This is what PR is, it does not relate to the content of the
page.
2) Internal links also count, but are probably calculated differently.
3) PR is not entirely unrelated to keywords, because the anchor text in the
link (eg <a href="xxx"> key words</a>) is effectively taken as a keyword
for your site. The higher the PR of the page containing the link, the more
significant it is. In this way it is possible to have keywords which are
not actually in the page content.

You can see how a page ranks in the SERPS for separate elements of the
Google ranking algorithm by adding various qualifiers before the search
string in a normal Google search. For example, search for "allinanchor:key
word" (no quotes) to see the SERPS based on just the anchor text from
linking pages.
Other qualifiers are:
allintext: - based on page content
allintitle: - based on title content
allinurl: - based on url (eg.www.xxx.com/key-word.html)

Google takes a lot of other factors into consideration; a high ranking in
all of these does not guarentee a high ranking in the regular SERPS.

Very briefly here are some of my thoughts on keywords:

Choose 2 or 3 keywords to aim for for your web page.
Use these words once or twice in each of the title and description and once
each in the keyword meta.
Use the words in the body text more frequently than any other words.
Keep the percentage of the keywords below 7% for a very large page; higher
percentages are permissable on smaller pages e.g. 30% for page with only
three visible words.
Keep the percentage of other, unwanted, words below half of that of the
(e.g. 3) wanted keywords. e.g. 7%, 7%, 7%, 3.5%, 3.3%, 2.9% etc
If you use keywords in page file or directory names keep the max percentage
low.
If you can, apply similar word frequency analysis to all the incoming anchor
text.

As with all guidelines you are welcome to try something different - all the
above is just my guesswork.
