Nice to know that Big Brother is watching
out over us and watching out for us all...
But how can a publicly registered website
be a threat to National Security?

Yes. If they suspect a Terrorist is checking out that Site, then thats why
they follow up on it. Otherwise, maybe the FEDS are Considering making a
Legitimate Purchase from the Website....you never know.

Or it could be that someone at Fort Meade is using a computer from there and
went to visit the site. It happens from military bases a lot. Fort Meade
just happens to be the station for the NS.

With a wide range of terrorist groups using the web I'd expect them to be
checking out most sites intermittently. Seems sensible to me. The only
question is are your lot recruiting the range of linguists that ours are?

A web site would be a very good way of giving the signal for a terrorist
attack, any attempt at interception would be more obvious than if email
was used. It's also likely to be an effective recruiting tool. Either way
something that the security bod SHOULD be checking.

I assume that they spider fairly widely and then have a human overview
depending on the presence of keywords. It's publicly available information
so they'd be remiss if they weren't at least monitoring for anything
obvious.

OTOH having lived for several years with my home phone tapped (yes there
are ways you can find out, and unless you are very active politically
it's near enough certainly not worth testing) I don't really expect much
in terms of privacy. I'd only worry if they took to spidering every week
or so.

Hmmmm.... But 5 days AFTER registering the site? I only submitted
it to one of those el cheapo 100 site submitters. Either Ft. Meade watches
ICANN and Network Solutions for NEW REGS or this Site Submitter
Service includes Fort Meade in their notifications automatically.
Think about it, there is no other way for them to discover my site
within 5 days of startup and registration. My guess is ICANN and NW Solutions
just send the lists along to Ft. Meade as a courtesy or Ft. Meade gets their
DNS Server updates from some source then puts the new ones on a to be
spidered and to be scanned list. I still say this is probably a good thing,
but it just creeps me out a little bit.

Why worry about who sees something that is public? The real test would be to
put up a page that can only be accessed using a username and password and
see if they manage to view it!!

I am surprised that they can not cloak their IP addresses any better than that
and that they in turn would have publicly viewable and traceable IP addresses
registered with ICANN. If I can backtrace using primitive and publicly available
tools like Server.RequestVariables think what the terrorists can do.

The other thing that concerns me is that this Stacey, who runs a knitting
and crocheting site, is so quick to jump to the defense of a Ft. Meade
employee, thinking that they would actually have the audacity and temerity
to (shudder) order something using a .MIL IP traceable site during company time
from within the Ft. Meade confines. Nothing goes on from those sites except
..MIL and .GOV business which Stacey just continues knitting and crocheting
and turning out babies who in turn will be totally oblivious to their entire world
as well most likely.

Sad really when you think about it. So naive and someone hopelessly turned a human
brain into a spewer of pablum. Knit one, purl two, is it? Or knit two, purl
one, I forget?

Makes me wanna puke.

Agree with you here John. What does it matter!

Actually they can. They just didn't need to when viewing your site.

Actually, people do use the .mil computers and can and do order things.
There are times when someone is TDY(temporary duty) that they need to order
something to send home and such. It is perfectly OK. They have the computers
blocked out for sites they are not suppose to go to. And trust me, I had a
person order a rug that was stationed at FT Meade. I have a crochet, sewing,
floral, wood, and jewelry craft site. No knitting.

And as for me popping out babies, my children know a lot about this world
and terrorism. Probably more than the average child. You see, they are
military dependants. Yes, I am a dependant now but spent my time in military
already. 10 years in the USAF, and not with a job you would think. I was a
crew chief on the F-16. I also knew how to shoot a M-16, and what to do in
war time. Won't tell you how much they have learned from my husband who is
still serving in the USAF.

Yeah, it is sad really. Since you have no idea what you are talking about!
Actually you should try crochet, it has a lot of mathematics in it. All the
patterns I do are my own, but your brain probably can't handle it anyway.
So, please before you try and figure out what I know and such you need to do
a little more research!
