Best way to get listed in misc. directories, boosting PR?

I asked how much to get on the front page at www.statcounter.com.
It's 2000 Euros a month - and they have to approve you. So you got
some saving to do and some work, too, I imagine.

1) Why the hell would you want to be on the "front page" of that crappy
Web site?

If you have a site with related content, a PR10 IBL is maybe worth it.

2) 2000 euros a month? Are you kidding? With access to that kind of
money, anyone could live like a fucking king here. Stop trolling.
3) I'm not paying one dime.

http://search.yahoo.com/dir apparently lets you "suggest" an URL for
free. I have no idea how this directory differs from their other
directory, which I was browsing around before, which only accepted paid
submissions.

It still requires a stupid Yahoo! account, though.

I used to use the www.selfpromotion.com link list quite often. But it seems
rather out of date. (For instance, he still lists Zeal as a place to
submit - it's been defunct for ages.)

Oddly, the site now has a PR0 as well. I wonder if it's still being updated.
