they put a small "this page has been banned from our database"-image next to
your page in the serps. or, that may be more plausible, they just don't show
your page because it has been banned....

No, because if they do it successfully then the engines don't know.
But they try to, or at least penalise the pages/sites by positioning
them low in the rankings where they'll receive little traffic.

What you mean by sayin no? They ban domain or singles webpages which uses
spam techniques?

True, but unless you're really REALLY subtle about it, a disgruntled
competitor is eventually going to notice what you're doing and blow the
whistle :-)

BTW Bill, is there something wrong with your clock or are you posting
messages from the future? Perhaps I could borrow your time machine some day?

I'm saying that if a site uses what's regarded as a spam technique but
does it very very well, the engines won't even notice it. Like
cloaking.
Another problem the engines have is what do they do with a site which
is spammed all over the shop but also has very good content and
backlinks? Should they ban it for using spam? Or should they keep it
because it has good content?
It's not cut and dried you know. It's not all black and white. And the
vogue for today's particular shade of grey is always essentially
transcient.

That would be BST. You're still on GMT, apparently.
