I guess this would be the best groups to post Google related questions to
that I know of.

Is the rate at which Google shows impressions on an ad in the search
network
affected by whether or not you also run the ad in the content network? |
Technically no, but some terms have temporary ups and downs that seem to
affect everything across the board. Think of "Tom Cruse" immediately after
MI-III release. This would jack your traffic up on both networks

I concluded a study on my site recently that found clicks from the
Content network had significantly poorer end-sales results then ads thru the
Search network. |
Plenty other people have the same result. However, there are products out
there that require very broad coverage, and that's where content network
can be useful.

I disabled all my ads on the content network. As expected, content
clicks dropped to zero and search clicks continued as before.
About a week later I got an email from Google inviting me to re-enable
my ads on the content network. I didn't. Immediately thereafter my search
impressions and clicks dropped by about one-half, and have stayed that
way the last week.
I have made no other changes in my advertising campaign. |
Some keywords you were bidding on may have had another advertiser with
bigger pockets entering the arena which pushed your ads from the first
page to the second (unless your average position did not change)
Google might have increased minimum bids on search network on some of your
keywords higher than your minimum bid. The content network has different
minimums, so the G guys wanted to see if you'd want to run your ads at
least in the content network knowing that they will not be run on the
search network due to increased minimums.
