Default AdWords has gotten more expensive? - 10-10-2006 , 05:34 AM

Isn't it true that it has become more expensive to use AdWords? I
started an ad campain for the word 'blogs' and the minimum cost per
click is now 0.8 Euro. That's about 1 dollar per click I think. When I
used AdWords in the past the cost per click seemed much lower even
though I haven't targeted the word 'blogs' before. The word combination
'search blogs' has a minimum CPC of 0.4 Euro, but that's still very
expensive I think.

I targeted these words because my site now has a (very cool feeds
search: http://www.mixlet.com

Why anyone would want to bid on such a generic keyword as "blogs" is beyond
me, but apparently enough are doing so that it is driving the price up. 10
million blogs out there, why would they click on your ad? And how many will
click on it (costing you money) that have no interest in what YOUR blog has
to say?

I chose the words 'blogs' and 'search blogs' (and maybe I will add
'blog search' later) because my site provides general search for blogs,
not any particular blog. I have paused the campain since I haven't got
much money right now. So it was just a small shot as a test more or
less. The strange thing was that the click rate was high at the
beginning, over 3%, but then suddenly Google started increasing the
number of impressions for the ad, and the click rate sunk drastically.
Not that I complain. It's probably good to have lots of impressions.
