Default Advertising on websites - 07-05-2005 , 11:21 AM

Hi all,

I know this isn't really an SEO question, but it's quite generally
related to advertising on websites and something that some of you may
have had to deal with in the past while SEO-ing sites....

I've had a guy contact me regarding advertising a banner on my site.

I'm just curious, what sort of monthly charge does one place on these
kinds of things (I'm not going to charge a lot since the site is still
relatively small)?

Also, is there a legal contract template anywhere online that I should
use to create a contract?

Should I get him to pay up front for the following month, or is paying
in arrears the normal procedure?

Cheers.

I suppose it'd depend on where the placement is on your page(s) and how big
is the banner. I've got a few regulars who post major Party Events (about
3-4 times a year) and I usually offer them their own full page along with
their banner and text placement on relevant page(s) within my biggest site.
I try to make it worth their while. The first time I did this I kicked
myself in the butt afterwards when I realised how much they themselves were
going to make through ticket sales for these parties. But you know, most
folks want something for as little as possible, so you'd have to keep that
in consideration. Make some money off of them without losing too much
yourself in as far as the quality of your site is concerned.

I include all important details within the invoice that I'd send them.

I always charge ahead of time. But my relationship with these folks has
developed to the 'Trusting' point where I'll sometimes let them take their
time.

Depends on the quality of traffic/exposure he/she gets.

Upfront, moreover, if you are not charging a lot, ask an upfront payment
covering 6 or even 12 months.
