Default Adsense and dynamic pages - 09-03-2004 , 07:50 AM

Hello,

My website features a database of companies. I would like to add
adsense to the page displaying the result of a visitor search.
E.g: If the visitor types "CRM" in the search field, he should get the
page results and the Adsense banners associated to it.
Is this possible? If so, how should I implement it?

Thanks a lot

I don't think you are allowed to, by Adsense guidelines, to share
Adsense on search result pages [that are not the ones offered by
Google's WebSearch that is], error pages, log in pages, or such. You
may want to check out the Guidelines and FAQ at AdSense first.

The only way I can think of - at the moment - is to use the WebSearch
for sites that Google offers.

I *think* (could be wrong, have not checked the guidelines) that you
can't show ads on search results pages because the Adsense spider can't
run searches, so would have no way to know what's on those pages to serve
up relevant ads.

If you make a search results page spiderable, it effectively becomes a
directory list, which should be find.

If I were Sapapaya, I would take a look at the logs for the site to work
out what searches are popular, then create a directory-style sitemap
pointing to those pages.

As long as there is a link pointing to (for example)

http://www.hisdomain.dom/?search=crm&results=30

Adsense should then be able to spider through, work out what is on the
CRM results page and present relevant ads for it.

(This assumes that the search writes relevant parameters to the URL. If
it doesn't, you'll probably need to rewrite it a bit so you can link
directly to a page of results. But it's usually rather a good idea to let
people link directly to results pages anyway)

I finally went and looked at the guidelines

https://www.google.com/adsense/policies
Ad Placement
* Up to three ad units may be displayed on each Web site page, but no
ad unit shall contain any advertisement in common with any other ad
unit. Serving two or more identical ads on a single page constitutes
double-serving, which Google does not support.
* A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a
page.
* No Google ad may be placed on any non-content-based pages. This
includes error, login, registration, "thank you" or welcome pages.
* No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed on any domain
parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any email.
* No Google ad may be placed on pages published specifically for the
purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.
* Elements on a page must not obscure any portion of the ads, and the
ad colors must be such that any ad elements, including text and URL,
are visible.

According to that thread Google did at one not allow AdSense on search
result pages but now does. The OP may be interested in the posting by
yump, who also uses dynamic pages, that appears about halfway down on
there that matches your suggestion in a way.
