Default add website to search engines - 01-14-2005 , 03:06 PM

Hi,

Many months ago I submitted my site to Google. I used the proper URL and
comments (keywords from meta tags). The site hasn't been picked up yet. I
read a thread that said link to my site from another site that is already
indexed on the search engine.

I don't understand how I would do this

anyhelp would be great

Thanks

You want a link from another site, say like a directory site or DMOZ
[if you can bear the sometimes ridiculous slowness on DMOZ's side],
leading to your site. The spider would follow that link and, in the
process, findyour site and start indexing it.

So you just try to have a friend, relative, related-theme site, or a
directory share a link your way. Its the kick-off to the future link
building you will be doing over time.

Carol

You need to jump-start it by having a link to your site from another one
that's already in the index. Google can eventually pick-up a brand-new
page not linked from anywhere else, but it's PR and SERP will be miserable
to the point that it would not make any difference whether it's in the
index or not.

Hint: add the URL to your Usenet signature ;-)

Sincerely,
Dmitri

I am probably wrong but i was under the impression that google doesn't
spider usenet for their search engine results.

It works better to havce it from a well established indexed page. As you
really don't gain to much from NG sigs like PR and such, but you gain with
other ways. And if you don't have a decent link you will be dropped from the
index if you get in without.

Also, it is preferred to use sigs properly on the usenet. Sorry to tell you
I am afraid yours is incorrect and a touch long.

keywords in meta don't work with Google anymore.

Just ask, or pay for it.

But quite some sites pick up postings to get cheap traffic. Imagine, you
and I writing here, and they copy those messages on their sites and get
them into Google...

Some mangle the links using redirection scripts.

Thank you for the suggestion, Stacey. It did not have to be THIS long, so
I shortened it ;-)

Usenet itself does not (and cannot) get spidered, but it has lots of Web
mirrors, such as Google Groups and the one I'm using to write this
message, and those DO get spidered. Not sure about Google's rules about
their own newsgroup archive, but the others are treated just like any
other Web site in terms of spidering.

No problem. I don't care about it really:-). I just wanted to let you know
before someone else complained about it.
