XHTML Validation Issue

I've been having problems getting DW (MX 2004) to validate Transitional XHTML
properly. If there are any empty element tags such as <img> with out the proper
closing container <img />, the validator does not catch it. According to the MM
technote, this should be caught, but it does not, at least in my case. I've
also tried with other tags such as <br> and still no dice. Anyone else
experienced something similar?
