Default wmode=transparent works on Mac - 06-15-2004 , 02:04 PM

Every now and then I say to myself, "Self, let's test that one more
time, see if things have changed." I ran a quick Google search on the terms
"Flash wmode example" and chose the link titled "WCH example" (whoever made
this site is calling their technique Windowed Control Hider [WCH], it looks
like, but it's just wmode, by which I mean they've used the wmode attribute
of the embed/param tags to allow Flash to "layer correctly" behind other
content).

Nothing particularly special about this page. I'm not affiliated with
the site, by the way; just found it. The page is simply an example of an
embedded SWF both with and without wmode=transparent.

I loaded this page in IE6, Netscape 4, 6, and 7 in WinXP: only works in
IE and N7, as expected. I also loaded the page in IE5 and Safari on a Mac,
and it works fine in both.

So for the record, I guess, wmode works on a Mac. But I'd like to get a
few other people making sure I didn't see it wrong. I'm not looking to
prove that wmode is an end-all, be-all. For all I know, it doesn't work in
the latest beta of Konqueror on the Unix platform ... I'm just saying that,
for me, it works on a Mac (OS X, version 10.2.8).

From what I recall, it works on OSX, but not OS/9.

Works quite well on my Mac OS 10.2.3 with Safari, IE, and Netscape.

Can you explain to me how to use this? It is really cool, and there have been times where it would have been nice...

Scroll down to the bottom of the tech note and you'll see a basic
example of the syntax as well as links to two tech notes on Macromedia's
web site.

OS X only. Still doesn't work in OS 9 or earlier.

Oh, and I think not Opera in OS X, but it's hard to say since the URL in
the first message in this thread displays so peculiarly in Opera/OS X.
