Default windows media player video - php/mysql - 02-08-2005 , 09:32 AM

Hi Everyone. This is an odd question and I'm wondering if there's an answer. We
built a frame-based web site awhile ago which allowed us to create a separate
frame in the centre of the page to display a video (windows media player
embeded video) within that frame. The separate frame was nice because we could
start the page by showing a picture (html with a jpeg inserted) and with the
click of a button replace the picture with a video, all within the same center
frame of the page. This idea was scrapped because the search engines didn't
like frame based web sites (they could no longer find us). Is there an
alternative way of creating the same display using php/mysql?

An even simpler question would be - can I display embeded media player videos
in a php/mysql environment? If so - how?

Thanks Michael Golchuk

Well have you seen Flash as an alternative, actually beyond flash have you
seen http://www.wimpyplayer.com/

This is a player for streaming media (audio or video) being a swf file you
can just plug it into your site and with php you can also execute
parameters (like loading a JPG) in case no codec is available.

Thank you for the information Alexandro. I'll give wimpy a try. We own Flash
and have tested out the conversions of video to both Flash and Media Player -
Our clients like Media Player better for the quality. We film in DV Cam format
- Avi/Wav converted to mpeg4. Media Player, in the past, had the best results.
We'll put Wimpy to the test - so far it sounds like a great way to go. I
appreciate the reply. Thanks again.
