Default Will the user view the whole page? - 06-01-2006 , 12:08 PM

I have a 20' monitor and am creating a new site. When others view the site on
the web, will they get the same view that I have? If not...how do I make sure
that the pages fit to their browser settings? Thanks

while viewing your site, resize your browser window, and you'll see what happens.

When I resize my window...my center, top and bottom frames lose some of the information. It is cutting them off.

that means you need to build your layout differently.

Maybe you should consider not using frames. Frames are usefull for web applications (not regular web
pages), or in some rare cases, iframes can be useful in wbe pages, but they mostly create problems.
People usually think frames should be used to avoid reloading an entire page, and to only load a
part of the page. But the browser cache takes care of that, so frames are mostly irrelevant.

Then, a layout that will accomodate various browser sizes should either be a fluid layout, with
dimensions in percent instead of pixels, OR should be a fixed layout in pixels about 760px wide.

Only if they also have a 20" monitor and the same resolution IMHO,
aim for 17" monitors 1024xwhateverPC's use

Aim for whatever your client and their expected visitors use.

does this mean that there's not an easy way to make your pages fit in any
browser window, no matter what screen size/resolution the user has? that sure
would make things easier for me, and a lot of other people i'm sure!

i noticed today that IE7 makes the content fit into the window if you minimize
it (as long as there's no content, like images, that force it to stay bigger
than the window), which is awesome. I wish all browsers did that!

All browsers do that, if the page is coded to allow it. If the page isn't
coded that way, no browser will do that.

To answer your question: True, there is no easy way to make your pages fit
in any browser window, if by "easy" you mean without knowing HTML or
spending any time learning the techniques..
