Default Why does DW ruin this file when opening ? - 07-23-2003 , 11:09 AM

All,

I have been trying to fix this file for weeks.

I am a newbie, and know very little about JavaScript ... other than cut 'n' paste it.

When I paste in the JavaScript in Homesite everything works fine. However, when I open the file in DW ... DW removes and cleans up some of the tags and the file stops working.

I need to be able to work with it in DW, because I need to make some additions that are easier to do in DW.

Can anyone help ?

This file is working fine right now, however if you open it in DW ... and save it ... it will stop working. Here's a link to the file: http://ednat.sce.com/td2/tdp/convertor.html

I have also attached the code as: convertor.txt

Please email me the fixed file, or post it here, so I can learn what to edit in the future.

I really appreciate any help. I am dying to get this off my plate.

Thanks,
Kendall

All,

I tried what Funkweb suggested, but like I said it works after the first cut 'n' paste, but if you re-open it, DW modifies the tags.

Funkweb,

Did you re-open the file after saving it? When you re-open it, that is when DW cleans up the code.

Also, did you test it?

Anybody else?

Thanks

Funk,

Thanks for the reply.

I created a new file in DW. Opened and stripped out all the code. Then I viewed the source code to the link you posted, and cut 'n' pasted your code into my clean DW file.

Like yours, I can get it to work. However, if you re-open it a second time, that's when DW edit's/ruins the tags.

Did you re-open it, and save it, a second time in DW after you put it together ?

Thanks for hanging in there.

Kendall

Dreamweaver is desperately trying to render the page, but the code is
a mass of improperly nested tags. You have eight opening comment tags
and only seven closing comment tags. You have no closing </body> or
</html> tags. I'd suggest re-building the page from scratch.

Yes I did.. and working.
I have a strong feeling that something in your setting is not quit right.

Dreamweaver never rewrites your code.
For example, Dreamweaver does not alter your white space or change the case of attributes.
Optionally, you can clean up your code according to criteria that you specify. You can also customize how Dreamweaver formats code.

Now.. if you open your Dreamweaver.. and go: Edit --> Preferences, Choose "Code Rewriting"
Look there.. and I'm sure you will find out why your Code is beeing changes.

If the setting in DW Preferences-->Auto-Fix improperly nested tags on
opening is check-

then Dw will blow a gasket trying to sort out the poor html that is in that
file.

Are these messages making it to the webforum???????

Use a newsreader, instead of the web. If you had, you would see the message
from Alan which solves your problem.
