website layout advice needed

i'm curious to hear from some of the design professionals here
particularly about layout. I'm thinking of putting together a websit
consisting of a large database of information. this would requir
having a search function among other things but are there an
particular do's and don'ts when dealing with a database site such a
'Discogs.com' (http://www.discogs.com)? are there any helpful sites
can visit that will give me more information on putting together
database driven site? any info would be appreciated

you should change the subject of your thread.
The issues you're describing are the opposite of layout issues.
You're talking about back-end applications (databases, server apps,
search engine etc...) or javascript (front-end) apps.

This is potentially a huge question. Have you created a database-driven site
before?

There is a bit of work involved but if you're familiar with the steps then
it's simply a case of getting on with building it.

What flavour server (ASP, CF etc?) and database (Access, MySql etc?) are you
using?
