Default web colors - 07-14-2004 , 08:51 PM

Hi all,

Im doing images in Paint Shop Pro 6. Im trying to make those images the same
color as the background of my web page. I match the colors in the graphic
program to the colors in DW but they turn out different when viewed in a web
browser (IE). Even though both colors are say...#506C60 there is a definate
difference in shade. Ive tried saving in different formats....GIF.JPG and
..PNG. PNG seems to work the best, but is there a way to make them match up
using JPG and GIF? Id like to optimize between visual and file size of course.

Thanks

The best way for GIF files is to use a transparent background, so the
website's background color will shine through (or you have to edit the
palette after reducing the image to 256 colors to adjust the background
color, but some older browsers will still render them differently).

With JPEG you'll always have a more or less visible difference
(artefacts) between the image and the background due to the JPEG
compression algorithm.

I think I would stay with the PNG.

You will never be able to achieve perfect color matches between GIF (which
uses a statistical compression algorithm and is non-lossy) and JPG (which
uses a perceptive compression algorithm and is lossy). You may get close
(even so close that you can't easily detect the difference) but you will
only achieve parity randomly and on isolated pixels.
